Friends of New Parents
Because pregnancy and the first year in a baby's life require many adjustments and can be stressful, a special helping relationship may be beneficial. Friends of New Parents is designed to enhance the emotional, pychological and physical resources of the new/expectant parent during this very special time.
Friends of New Parents are volunteers who have had formal training in support and mentoring of new families, child development resources available in the county and the role of the volunteer. But most of all, the volunteers have the life experience training of being a new mom once themselves. These volunteers can answer questions you may have on your family's adjustment to the new baby, give you helpful hints on baby care, and bring with them product samples and literature that can be very useful.
The volunteers are matched with new parents and make a call or visit two to four times a month for the first six months. Referrals to this program can be made from the hospital, child care agencies, or from anyone who feels the program can be helpful to them.
