Become a Volunteer!!
If you are a dedicated person that is looking to make a difference in the lives of others, Palo Alto County Health System has a number of interesting and important ways for you to help:
Information Desk
Provide patients/visitors with information such as patient room
numbers, directions to hospital departments, serve coffee/water
to specialty clinic waiting area, relay messages for specialty clinics,
keep waiting area picked up, and assist with clerical projects as
needed.
Monday through Friday
8:00 a.m.-noon, noon-4:00 p.m.
Community Health
Taking donations of clothing, diapers and baby items down to UDMO
and setting them out in the section we use. Will need to be able
to lift 10-25 lbs, and be able to get the donations to UDMO on their
own.
As needed, depending on donations.
Escort
Escort patients and x-ray films between the departments. Wheelchair
pushing and walking are apart of this important customer service
area.
Meals on Wheels
Deliver 20-30 meals to members of the community that are confined
to their homes. Must have transportation and good idea of addresses.
1 hour to 1 ½ hours, Monday-Friday
Patient Activities
Provide activities to patients under the direction of the Activities
Coordinator, the Nursing Department and PARC hall.
Weekdays, once per week, flexible
with patient's schedule.
Volunteer Support Services
Provide support to many hospital departments by assisting in a variety
of projects such as bulk mailings, educational packets, envelope
stuffing, etc.
Scheduled as needed
Gift Shop
Assisting visitors with viewing and purchasing items in the Gift
Shop display window.
Special Event Volunteering
Help with the PACHS special events including parade floats, farm
safety day camp and open houses. Volunteers are needed both before
and during the events.
New Opportunities
As the shape of health care changes and as Palo Alto County Health
System expands its services, the importance and value of volunteer
assistance grows and changes. Information about these new opportunities
will be provided to you through notices with your monthly schedules
and at volunteer in-services.
Volunteers are scheduled on a monthly basis according to individual preferences. You may volunteer seasonally, once a month, or once a week!

Qualifications
- Desire to help others
- Willingness to learn and follow hospital policies and procedures
- Enthusiasm and Optimism
- Patience, warmth, a sense of humor, and good listening skills
- A
willingness to work well with others
Enrollment Procedure
- Fill out an application form
- Orientation and Training
- Health Screens-TB and rubella screening provided by PACHS
- Placement
- Continued education and training
